Can You Get Handwriting or Signatures Tattooed?

Whether it is a note from a loved one or signature, handwriting tattoos are a beautiful way to turn something sentimental into something permanent. Handwriting is unique to each person so one thing is for sure: no one will have the same tattoo as you. With handwriting tattoos, there are some key points to keep in mind before booking your appointment.

Size

Sizing is the most crucial point for most tattoos. It’s no secret that ink spreads over time, even when applied by highly skilled artists. It is the body’s natural response to try and move the foreign particles (ink) trapped in layers of skin. Tattoo designs that are too small or tight pose risks of blurring together over time. Turning handwriting into a tattoo is no exception; if the style or font is too tight, it could become unreadable and illegible as years go by. In this case, the artist would need to enhance the tattoo’s size in order for it to hold up well.

Placement

Another key point to consider when planning a handwriting tattoo is placement. If it is something sentimental, you may consider placing it somewhere that you can easily see. That way you will always be able to glance at it and reminisce or reflect. Another common placement is around the chest/heart area. Wanting to keep a certain memory close to one’s heart is pretty self-explanatory. It is also not uncommon to incorporate handwriting into larger tattoo ideas in a tasteful way.

Booking

Whether you’re booking with someone from our shop or other artists, the process is pretty congruent. It is usually recommended to show the writing sample to an artist prior to booking. That way the artist will be able to hear your opinions and advise the best way to achieve your tattoo design. Our best advice to clients is to be open to compromise; we only suggest idea tweaks when it will benefit the client and/or tattoo as a whole. We care about our clients and our quality of work, and want to ensure that their tattoos stay looking good for years to come.
