‘Embroidery’ Tattoos – Stitches & Ink
The practice of tattooing has been around for thousands of years. It’s an industry that’s constantly evolving and adapting as time goes on. Almost every day it seems artists come up with new inventive ways and styles to lay ink. For example, the late 2010’s saw the birth and rise of embroidery style tattoos. They’re bound to earn a second glance, as your brain processes whether the skin was actually embroidered or a tattoo.
Fernanda Ramirez
Fernanda Ramirez is a Mexican tattoo artist that found a unique way to incorporate her heritage into her work. She began her career in 2015, with the intention of capturing her Mexican culture in her work. Her style has evolved to include designs and colors used in tenango, which is a form of traditional Mexican embroidery. With careful precision, Ramirez works to recreate the appearance of colorful stitches with ink and a tattoo machine. Her work is so successful that the tattoos appear to truly have been embroidered at quick glance.
Paulina Oliver
Paulina Oliver is another Mexican tattoo artist that mingles heritage into her art and style. In addition to embroidery styles, Oliver also creates tattoos that
look like traditional beading. She works meticulously to make her art as lifelike as possible. Oliver even pays special detail to shading and shadowing of each piece, to give them a three dimensional look. Not all of her work uses traditional Mexican themes or motif. Oliver also uses her creativity to tattoo unique, somewhat abstract designs.
Duda Lozano
Duda Lozano is a Brazilian tattoo artist that specializes in art made to look like patches. His unique take on the embroidery tattoo trend stems from a prior career. Lozano used to design textile logos for hats and other clothing. Doing so gave his creative eye an edge in the ink world. His keen knowledge of contrast allows him to successfully balance lights and darks. That combined with skillfully places colors and strokes creates the illusion of a threaded patch. Lozano is talented in multiple tattoo styles, even incorporating hyper realistic elements to his patch work tattoos to make them truly one-of-a-kind.
Eva Karabudak
Eva Karabudak is a Turkish tattoo artist fluent in many art styles. She is most well known for her highly detailed micro-tattoos and hybrid hyper realistic cross stitch tattoos. Karabudak studied Fine Arts in Ankara, and thus uses her technical knowledge of art in her tattoos. She successfully combines traditional cross stitch patterns with a pinch of photo realism. The end result is stunning and extraordinarily unique. Initially, she came to America with a work visa sponsored by an independent tattoo shop. However, Karabudak has carved out her own path and founded Atelier Eva.
