Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Following proper tattoo aftercare is essential to guarantee your fresh tattoo remains clean and healing properly. If you have any unnatural concerns at any point throughout the healing process (such as excessive pain, discoloration, swelling, etc.) please contact your artist immediately. Once the artist is able to asses the situation, it can be determined if the healing process is proceeding normally or if medical intervention is necessary.
Recommended Immediate Tattoo Aftercare Procedure
(For cling wrap bandages and after removal of Tattoo Derm)
- Wash hands fully before touching anything on or near the tattooed area.
- With CLEAN hands, in a CLEAN bathroom, carefully remove the bandage after 2-3 hours.
- After removing the bandage, you will immediately wash the tattooed area. Be sure to avoid soaps with ANY types of fragrance, moisture beads, or scrubs. Gently lather the soap in clean hands then proceed to apply to the tattooed area in small circular motions to remove all remaining ointment, lymphatic fluid, and blood.
- Rinse the tattooed area very gently and wash again if necessary to ensure the skin is clean.
- Allow tattoo to air dry, or pat dry (extremely gently) with a clean piece of paper towel.
- Once the tattoo is fully dried, apply a very thin amount of your preferred, fresh tattoo-safe, ointment. Enough to moisturize your skin but not enough to be greasy to the touch. Less is more.
- Apply a small amount of ointment 2-3 times a day for the first 2-3 days before switching to a regular, fragrance free lotion until healed. If you are unsure of a safe ointment, please ask your artist.
Recommended Tattoo Derm Aftercare
- Keep the wrap on for 4-6 days, if the wrap stays firmly in place, remove after day 5-6.
- Bathing is still possible. Just be sure to avoid soaking the wrap while showering.
- Do not pick, pull, or scratch at the wrap.
- If the wrap gets loose and must be taken off, follow aftercare procedures. (Listed above under Recommended Immediate Tattoo Aftercare Procedure)
- If redness continues past day 2, please remove the wrap and follow aftercare procedures. (Listed above under Recommended Immediate Tattoo Aftercare Procedure)
- To remove, slowly pull back the wrap from one corner, peel it back over itself, not away from the body to avoid stretching the skin heavily.
- Wash the area once the wrap has been removed. Gently lather soap in clean hands and proceed to apply to the tattooed area in small circular motions to remove all remaining lymphatic fluid and blood.
- Follow after care procedures if the skin is still in the peeling stages. (Listed above under Recommended Immediate Aftercare Procedure)
